So my leaning is toward MAF failure, took MAF out, still clean as always, like it just came out of the box, I have cleaned it every 10 - 20,000 for the last 100,000 km, but it is still the original and is coming up to 180,000km. TPS also I think would be more consistant in appearance of issue, does not seem to happen under 2,000rpm, when engine is loaded, irrespective of TPS. My first thoughts were Air filter, Fuel filter contamination, MAF failure, TPS failure before I get into the serious stuff.Ĭhecked air filter, bit dirty, but not much worse than recent times and have had it much worse in past with no issues.įuel filter, I think not likely, because it also happens under low load conditions, so I imagine low fuel requirements, I imagine fuel filter contamination would show up issues mainly at max consumption, i.e. The other thing is the EGT's seem to be significantly lower, getting around 250C cruising on the flat at 110km/hr with 12-15 psi boost, but a week ago I was getting around 300C with 9-11 psi boost, & fuel economy has dropped about 1l/100km, I have not done any adjustments in this period.ĭid a bit of a search around, didn't find anything specific. Seemed to happen more on acceleration above 2,000rpm, so at cruise speed & even at lower speed when taking off, & around corners etc., but if I held higher gears and loaded the engine up keeping engine under 2,000 rpm, even giving it good throttle, didn't seem to trip up, but as soon as I changed down & reved up, I would feel the hesitation skip. Anyway on way home from long trip started to feel slight hesitation on acceleration cruising at 110km/hr about 2,900 RPM, seemed to get worse as time went on, started taking note of when and how. You can kind of see the hood moving when your driving as well, but I'd advise watching the road ahead when you're rolling.Īnd I'd shop around before you take your car to a dealer (unless it's under warranty).A few days ago, I thought the troll was just a little under power and less responsive, didn't take too much notice, put it down to negative placebo. Pop the hood, and get a buddy to watch the engine while you put it under load. One thing I did notice when I had the mount problem, and I've heard other people say as well, is that you can see the engine moving if the mount(s) are bust. Should be cheaper on a newer and more common vehicle, like 80% of the cars made in the last decade. It ended up cost me close to 500$ to have them replaced, but that was due to the age of the car, the fact that it was a Cadillac (mounts were roughly 50-60 bucks each), and because they weren't sure which mounts they needed, so labour for trial and error. He said it was probably the mounts, so he took in the shop and put it on a lift, and showed me that the two front mounts were completely seperated. The mechanic took it around the block, and checked the engine under load (at a stop, hold the brake, and give it some gas, not enough to do a brake stand or anything bad). On my last car (86 deville fwd) I was having similar problems, so I took it to a tranny shop. Personally, I never noticed any unusual slugglishness (my old car was slow as shit anyways). With regards to the motor mounts, they're probably gone if it clunks or slams when it shifts up/down, if you hammer the gas, or if you're accelerating hard and it shifts during that.
